The Birth Story

Cindy woke up on Monday night at 2:00am with "pains". A little timing showed that they were 45 seconds apart, panic time except they were not too severe. 3:00am off to the hospital. Not much traffic but, Cindy noted that University Ave. was bumpier than usual. 3:30am we are there, dilation 2cm. same as last week. It looks like a long day ahead. Contractions getting stronger. Pain under control thanks to Kevin the Anesthesiologist. Next check 7:00am. 6-7cm. good progress. Joy (the nurse) had to check out of curiosity before going off shift. Next check at 7:45am showed full dilation. Time to push but, wait no doctor!? Cindy wasn't about to wait so the resident came in and started the process. Ahhh! the bed won't raise. The resident tells us to lift up on the railings to give the motor some help. It works. The head crests about the time the doctor on the floor shows up, Jean Glowecki. She takes over and delivers Natalie at 8:15am. Dr. Thom, the OB doctor on call shows up about 15 minutes after the birth. Incredible job by Cindy to deliver a 10 lb. 8 oz. VBAC baby in 5 hrs.
